The latest audiovisual Butoh performance  Frequency in Motion took place in the beautiful Coyoacan, Mexico. Like previous shows, this one was exceptional. For this event , the dancers began their performance outside, in the garden, while I played piano, along with Hiroko’s sounds, inside.  I improvised alone for about 20 minutes or so.  The dancers eventually made their way inside and the show continued with projected images and and a variety of  sounds from Hiroko and myself. The art space was large with plenty of  room for the dancers to move. The duration of the show was similar to Barcelona, over 65 minutes, but this does not include the exterior garden section, which was an additional 20 minutes or so. This Frequency also had dual projection with images echoing one another . I don’t want to reveal too much, because a few ideas were discovered  in  this particular environment. We have multiple audio recordings  along with rehearsals, so look for material in the future.

I feel incredibly grateful to take part in these performances and overwhelmed by the appreciation from the audience. This was also the first time I played live improv piano for  a specific event.

Arigatou Hiroko, Eugenia, Guyphytsy and Atsushi. I will write more soon. We are also discussing creating a separate blog/website to document these performances.

The adventure continues….
