Experimental Films for Sonic Circuits at Pyramid Atlantic tomorrow nite! 12/28/13

1.Invocation (Ancient Harps) (Nick Collins, 2012)
U.K. 6:00 minutes.
Rhythms of summer light and ancient stone.

2.Marshy Place Across (Lorenzo Gattorna, 2012)
USA | Format: 16mm transferred to DV | color/b&w | sound | 4:30 minutes
The title signifies the Native American name for Assateague Island, a
national seashore and natural landmark located off the coast of
Maryland. A passive bay and pristine beach compose the barriers of
this subtle yet stunning passage. Distractions amongst the dunes
awaken development of the ecological and departure of the artificial.
The film culminates in close proximity to a small band of feral horses
that share a common territory and domesticated ancestry. — L.G.

1. Sunrise Fires – Lorenzo Gattorna
2013, 16mm-to-digital, b/w and color, sound, 6.5m
In early September 1995 the Sunrise Wildfire was extinguished. 7,000 acres had burned during the peak of the tourist season yet nobody was killed. The aggravated assault swept from one side of Sunrise Highway to the other without the slightest hesitance. Another series of severe brush fires ignited 17 years later and became known as the Brookhaven Blaze. The outbreak left around 2,000 acres torched. The wild ruin and regrowth were revisited within The Central Pine Barrens, the largest natural area on Long Island and its last remaining wilderness.

2. The Sea [is still] Around Us – Hope Tucker 4 minutes, HD, US, 2012
The postcard of a vacation spot usually enhances the reality. The contrast is more stark in Corinna, Maine, a former woolen mill town on the shores of Lake Sebasticook, where unregulated dumping of pesticides and industrial waste contaminated the water supply.

3. Morning at Xuanwu Lake – Chris H Lynn

1. A Distant Horizon by Ryan Marino
Remote landscapes contain fragments of strata and sediment suggesting an existence marked by time not man. A vibrant sun illuminates the contours of the land providing a natural show of light and shadow play. “We are lost between the abyss within us and the boundless horizons outside us.” – Robert Smithson

2.Ships passing on the Huangpu River (Chris H Lynn, 2013)
Video/Super 8 film transferred to DV|color/b&w|sound| 7:22
Images of ships recorded in the same location (Shanghai) at different time periods(2008-2013) drift in and out the frame towards their unknown destination.
