We continue to meet once a month in DC living rooms to share and listen to one another’s latest audio finds- and to continue an ongoing conversation about sound and creative storytelling.

We always welcome curious visitors, eager listeners, and sound enthusiasts of all stripes and types. To join our mailing list or learn more about our monthly meetings, email us at sound@dclisteninglounge.com.

Lynlee’s Beauty was Everywhere on Haze’s recent Sound Interpretation Series: Virginia Woolf

cover
Lynlee has contributed a new track entitled Beauty was Everywhere for Haze’s Sound Interpretation series dedicated to Virginia Woolf. This track consists of field recordings and a superb, rich reading by Una herself . Both of us are great admires of Woolf, so hopefully the track will inspire a few new readers to seek Woolf out, or motivate some old readers to dust off their copies of Mrs Dalloway . Here is a link to the Haze compilation. More Lynlee soon.

Una Lee’s Grainy Thoughts CDR

cover

When I first heard Una Lee’s disc Grainy Thoughts I was immediately captivated by its diversity and  mystery. Lee manages to incorporate an eclectic use of sounds to create something innovative and quite compelling. This is no easy task. Styles range from experimental field recordings, sound art,   noise,  and improv piano compositions-each track is rendered with imagination and skill.

From the haunting drones of “A Quiet Rumble” to the delicate, intricate rhythms of “A Rolling Mind” or to the reflective, nostalgic beauty of “A weary conversation” the listener is free to engage and explore.

The disc is now available on Una Lee’s bandcamp page with additional tracks and her own handmade paper case. Like the music, the handmade case is beautiful and displayed with authenticity and care. This is a stunning debut! I look forward to hearing more great things from this South Korean Artist.

Lynlee- Collaborative Creative Adventure

Lynlee is a very exciting collaborative adventure that I am undertaking with  sound artist Una Lee. As a duo, we plan to share our ideas, field recordings, remixes and visuals to create works we both find satisfying and new. We are in the early stages, but we already have produced a number of tracks and a short film. We will be posting our compositions on the Lynlee soundcloud page which is located below.  Expect more details as the project develops, but for now-have a listen!

New Audio collaboration with Amptext

The last three screenings with Sonic Circuits have been really exciting for a number of reasons:
I have been able to hear innovative and challenging works from a wide variety of artists locally and internationally, which is really exceptional. I can’t think of any other place locally where I would see or hear this work on a consistent basis (the events are monthly).
I also get a chance to screen my films(live super 8 projection sometimes) along with other great filmmakers/videographers to a very receptive and appreciative audience. Lastly, and most importantly, it enables me to meet and possibly collaborate with other artists and learn new things.
Earlier this month I posted a link to an audio/visual collaboration with the excellent Daniel Barbiero-
He created the score while I worked on the visuals.
Here is my most recent collaboration: a new audio work with Amptext
I sent him a field recording in early December and he supplied additional sounds and arrangement-
He describes the process here-
